Abt Associates National Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy
Government work demands precision. When Papua New Guinea’s Department for Community Development and Religion needed a design system for its national gender equality policy, we built something that could carry real weight: culturally grounded, visually clear, and built to last across every print context.
We drew the design language directly from the traditional bilum. The woven geometry of the bag became a repeating graphic system: dominant on the covers, threaded through internal spreads, consistent at every scale.
The colour palette, the typography decisions, the monochrome fallback for limited print environments, every decision connected back to the same visual source. The result is a policy document that reads as authoritative and feels distinctly Papua New Guinean.
